I’ve been visiting my godmother and her family in the countryside of Oklahoma for a few days now. We’ve been running around barefoot in the red martian-esque dirt jumping on trampolines, chasing grasshoppers, listening to cicadas under the shade of various trees, moseying around in the forest following animal tracks & identifying small animal bones, and catching fireflies whilst stargazing.
My clothes smell of campfires and dirty dogs. My hair is tangled and windblown. My face is smudged with dirt and is never without a big goofy grin.
I’m in love with the south and I can’t imagine ever going back to those places I once called home. I desperately hope everything works out in these next few months.
